For the love of Dr. Suess

 For those of you who have younger children, this week was Dr. Suess' birthday.  My little one, the Big Easy, his class invited me to read to them for circle time.  I was very excited and chose three possible stories to read. 

One of the stories was of course The Cat in the Hat, in French Le Chat Au Chapeau, in Spanish El Gato en el Sombrero..... oh I got lost there for a moment. Which is my son's FAVORITE story.  When I say FAVORITE, I mean the boy has memorized the whole book.  He is four. He can't read. He committed a whole book to memory.  I can barely remember to get my car keys. 

Anywhoville, I get to the classroom with the books, the big E is happy to see me and we gather all his little friends to the reading area.  He is feeling special so he sits next to me on the chair while I pull out the book. 

I open to the first page, I get through the first sentence and WHOOSH, the boy is in action.  Somewhere around page twenty three I am wondering why I even came, big E could have handled this himself with his cool self confidence and story telling bravado.  Did I tell you he can do voices? Multi-talented guy.  So my little man, read The Cat in the Hat to his friends with a little help from me here and there.  And let me just say for the record, the boy recited the text from the correct page that was being displayed. 

Big E let me stay through two more stories and after 45 minutes of reading, I was tired.  The voices really hard to keep track of.  I think I may have filtered into a old Irish pub owner with the Lorax, then came in for my close up with Mr. DeMill, finally channeling a ancient Gold Rush miner.  I ran the gambit. 

So to Dr. Suess and his family, thank you!  Generations of rhyming and chiming and fun, fun, fun.  Working on literacy is never done!
